As the sun set and the cool fall air settled over Arcadia Festival Place in downtown Kalamazoo, local zombies staggered in the gate hoping to break a Guinness World Record.

The event which was held Oct. 20, failed to break the world record for most zombies in a quarantined area currently held by Asbury Park, N.J. for 4,093 zombies.

Kalamazoo fell just short of that with a little over 3,000.

Osha Kelley, event organizer, wanted to organize an event after receiving her project management certification, according to the Kalamazoo Gazette.

“Our quarantine area was way too small,” said Kelley to the Gazette after being asked what she learned from organizing the event this year. “I didn’t realize that 4,000 people took up that much room. The participation blew me away.”

The event also received much support from the local community with residents and local businesses donating time to help.

The event also featured a live band, food and games for the kids.

After learning what it took to put the event together, Kelley can now focus her attention on trying for the record again next year.

“See you next year!” she said.
